How can data ecosystems with Gaia-X support maritime projects from offshore wind farms to ammunition waste disposal?

Objective: Improved data sovereignty in the maritime sector

Jann Wendt (35), initiator of the Marispace-X project, spoke about this question last week in Hamburg as one of several experts at the Gaia-X Roadshow hosted by eco - the Association of the Internet Industry.

His aim was to show how companies in the maritime sector - whether small or medium-sized - can improve their data sovereignty, efficiency and security when working in a cloud by using the Gaia-X standard.

In the subsequent discussion, moderated by Vivien Witt (eco), Jann Wendt debated with eco CEO Oliver Süme of Fieldfisher, Florian Boldt of Deepshore GmbH and Marcus Busch of Leaseweb how the Gaia-X value proposition of the next generation of European data infrastructure can be delivered.

The unanimous opinion was that at the moment the entire IT architecture - with regard to European data protection - is under scrutiny and digital sovereignty in Europe must be ensured.

Taking on the Gaia-X challenge offers huge opportunities

When asked by Vivien Witt whether Jann Wendt would start such a Gaia-X funding project again, he replied that it was a very interesting journey that he would embark on again at any time. For him personally, it was highly motivating to work on a "maritime greenfield". He summed up: "The Gaia-X challenge offers us all a huge opportunity that we have to take advantage of."
